You may have heard the term “zero click” tossed around, but not known what it means. Is it the next big alt-rock band? Or a new way to start your car? We’re breaking it down in this new article series because it points to a big shift in how people find, evaluate, and contact businesses today.
It started with a client email.
I was working on a press release for a client, and suggested including images and an infographic. My client wrote, “I don’t usually see many graphics in a PR, since the intent is to intrigue people enough so they’ll click through to the website and contact us.”
I realized many business owners still think this way. So in my reply, I explained that approach no longer holds up. Today, images, video, quotes, bulleted lists, and FAQs are important because they improve engagement on the platform, but this may not result in a click to your website.
Why? Because search engines, AI, and social platform algorithms are increasingly structured to satisfy the user’s needs on the platform. ‘Zero click’ means a buyer gets what they need without clicking through to your site.
Visibility now comes before the website visit
Today, this is the digital marketing reality:
✔️ Search results answer questions directly.
✔️ AI tools summarize options.
✔️ Social platforms reward content that keeps users engaged right where they are.
Your website still matters, but it may no longer be the first place a prospect interacts with your business. In fact, it can be one of the last places they visit before making contact or making a decision.
What to do next
